Bootcamp Job Placement Rates, Explained
Almost every bootcamp advertises a job placement rate. The number on its own tells you very little — what matters is how it was measured, over what window, and whether anyone outside the school verified it.
Questions worth asking before you trust a placement number
- Is it independently audited? The Council on Integrity in Results Reporting (CIRR) is the closest thing this industry has to a standard — member schools agree to report graduation and employment outcomes using a shared, audited methodology. A school that isn't a CIRR member isn't necessarily dishonest, but its numbers are self-reported and unverifiable.
- What counts as "employed"? Some programs count any job, including ones unrelated to the training, as a placement. Others only count roles in the field you trained for.
- What's the measurement window? A 90-day placement rate and a 180-day rate can look very different for the same cohort.
- What happens to students who don't respond to the survey? Some methodologies exclude non-respondents from the denominator entirely, which can inflate the reported rate.
None of this means placement rates are meaningless — it means a specific, sourced number from an audited report is worth far more than a rounded marketing headline. When we cite a placement figure anywhere on this site, we link to where it came from.
